It’s all well and good to call our Blue Water Open a Charity Fishing Tournament, but where does the money really go? First of all, we want to let you know that our tournament is largely put on by unpaid volunteers.
Then we have our generous sponsors who help to underwrite the cost of the event, AND we have to mention all of the businesses who make generous donations for our raffles and baskets. We could no do this without their support.
Now, back to the question of where does all of the money we raise go?
Karen McElveen, Contributed this story to our local paper TC Palm in January:
“The Exchange Club of Sebastian was able again this year to provide food for the Sebastian Ecumenical Food Pantry, to enable them to fill 100 food boxes to be distributed at Christmas for needy families.
Over $1,000 worth of food items were donated, enough to fill their Christmas food donations and much more.
The Ecumenical Food Pantry provides food, diapers, formula, paper products and pet food for families in need. The ministry reaches hundreds of families in the Roseland/Sebastian community.
This is the fifth year that Sebastian Exchange has donated food and paper products during the holidays. These donations are made possible through the proceeds from the Exchange Club of Sebastian Foundation’s Blue Water Open Offshore Charity Fishing Tournament, which will be held again this year on June 3 at Capt’n Hiram’s Resort and Restaurant in Sebastian.
The Exchange Club of Sebastian contributes to many local charities in the community, with emphasis on youth activities and preventing child abuse. If you are interested in getting involved, plan to attend a luncheon any Wednesday (except the first Wednesday of each month) held at Capt’n Hiram’s at noon.”
Besides the donation to this local food bank, Exchange Club of Sebastian recognizes Outstanding students in the local high school, law enforcement, veterans and most of all the prevention of child abuse.
We hope to see you there this year. The tournament is great, the prizes are generous, and everybody has a wonderful time!
