On June 27th the Exchange Club of Sebastian held their 36th Annual Installation & Awards dinner. Forty-five guests enjoyed cocktails, dinner and camaraderie at Capt. Hiram’s Tiffany Room. Special guests attending were Kim Prado, Exchange Club Florida District President and her daughter Shannon, Nancy Gollnick, Past Florida District President and District Exchangite of the Year, Jenny Frederick, Past Division Director, and Eric Menger Past Florida District President.
Adam Preuss, a 20-year Sebastian Exchange Club member and past president, presided as Master of Ceremonies. Kathy Falzone, Past President and District Director conducted the installation of officers and directors for the 2018-2019 year. Officers and board members are: Bill Middleton, President, Michael Natale, President Elect, Karen McElveen, Secretary, Diana Best, Treasurer, Past President, Dr. Jeff Slade, and board members Kathy Gutierrez, Ali Qizilbash, Debbie Fitzpatrick, Kathy Burns, Alicia Hjalmeby, Bill Forte, Rick Giteles, Leigh Swanson, John Waitner, and Mary Williamson.
Outgoing President Dr. Jeff Slade thanked members for all their accomplishments this past year. Incoming President Bill Middleton spoke of his vision for the upcoming year; to continue supporting the four Pillars of Service supported by Exchange Clubs across the U.S. After telling his own compelling childhood story of the positive influences of teachers, coaches and friends, Bill called on each of us to expand our line of sight and “be the person that makes a difference in another’s life”.
In addition, the Sebastian Exchange Club celebrated a very successful Blue Water Open Chairty Offshore Fishing Tournament, which was held on June 1-2. Just this year they raised $75,000 at the event, which enables Sebastian Exchange Club to contribute to many local non-profits that mirror their Pillars of Service: Americanism, Community Service, Youth Programs, and the National Project The Prevention of Child Abuse.
The Exchange Club of Sebastian meets every Wednesday, except the first Wednesday of each month, at noon at Capt. Hiram’s in Sebastian. Visitors are welcome to attend to see community service in action, enjoy lunch, and listen to engaging guest speakers.
