Students of the Month
OUR YOUTH OF THE MONTH AWARD recognizes hard-working pre-high school and high school students who attain high levels of scholastic achievement, community involvement and leadership, and daily demonstrate good citizenship both at school and at home. Students recognized for the month of February were Leonardo Benitez from Sebastian Charter Junior High School, Roberto Gonzalez-Pulido from Storm Grove Middle School, Leann Helpling from Sebastian River Middle School, and Madison Mariano and Jeff McCue from Sebastian River High School.
Leonardo Benitez comes from a family of hard workers and maintains a 4.33 GPA. He has already earned 3 high school credits. “Leo” plans to join the SRHS IB Program. He has earned the full 4 -Year 2019 Take Stock in Children Scholarship awarding him 2 years of study at IRSC followed by 2 more years at a Florida Institution. In accepting his award he thanked everyone, his family and said, “I really appreciate it.”
Roberto Gonzalez-Pulido values education and thinks it is important. He plans to attend VBHS and pursue either medical studies computer programming. He is a conscientious student, respectful and an excellent role model. He is always helpful and friendly, pleasant and polite. Roberto also volunteers as an alter server in his church. In accepting this award he said “I am very honored”
Leann Helpling exemplifies all the qualities of the SRMS program. She demonstrates the ability to work and help others. She is very giving and has amazing humility. She won the silver award for Girl Scouts, is a member of SRMS Band, NJHS, Chorale Youth Group and AB Honor Role. She hopes to one day do missionary work in Uganda. In accepting her award she said, “I can’t express how much I’m grateful for this – to express myself as a person – thank you for that.”
Madison Mariano Is an IB Diploma Candidate with a weighted GPA of 4.03. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Vice President of Future Business Leaders of America, Co-President of the “It’s in the Bag” Program, and a member of the Marching and Concert Bands. She has also created her own business painting denim jackets. Madison is mature, kind and trustworthy. In accepting her award Madison said she wants to attend UCF and study Hospitality Management and learn French. She thanked our club, her parents and teachers for this honor.
Jeffrey McCue is also an IB Diploma Candidate with a 4.217 weighted GPA. He is a member of the Nation Honor Society, SRHS Encore Show Choir and Harmonix small choral group and has made the TTBB All State Chorus. He received a Superior Rating at the 2018 County and State Solo and Ensemble and has also been a guest performer for Renaissance Senior Living Center in Vero Beach. “Jeff” is also a member of Masterminds, FBLA and was an elementary school science fair judge for two years. He is an excellent ambassador for SRHS and its IB and Choral Programs. He hopes to attend FSU and study English literature and music. In accepting his award “Jeff” said , “thank you for this opportunity. I highly recommend the IB program where I can be myself and excel.”
