The new Child Advocacy Center (CAC) at Guardians for New Futures (GFNF) in Port St. Lucie was dedicated on Saturday, April 30.  In addition, the architectural design for the Heal Garden was presented.  The Garden will be built on the same property as the CAC.  Karen McElveen attended as a representative of the Exchange Club of Sebastian.  As part of the program, Karen had the honor of presenting Sebastian Exchange\u2019s donation of $10,000, making us the first to participate in their fundraising efforts for the Healing Garden<\/strong>.  Based on this and other donations we\u2019ve made, one of their counseling offices is dedicated in our honor (pictured above).<\/p>\n

The CAC is dedicated to children of physical and sexual abuse as a consolidated place where all the services they need will be provided under one roof: a child protection team, victim advocates, medical assistance, mental health counselors, law enforcement and state attorney\u2019s office.  The center is designed to help children and families feel comfortable, safe and minimize trauma. <\/p>\n

Guardians for New Futures and the new CAC serves the tri-county area:  Indian River, St. Lucie, and Martin.  They are not an Exchange accredited Child Abuse Prevention Center, but they provide all the same services.  Sebastian Exchange is proud to be a part of their support system.<\/p>\n

On May 11th<\/sup> we awarded a check to Cory Maxwell of Dive Therapy in the amount of $1,000.  Cory thanked us for our generous donation specifically to assist a former U.S. Marine Corps veteran and Sebastian Police officer and \u201cput him in the water.\u201d<\/p>\n

On May 11th<\/sup> we received thank you plaques from both Victory Kids and Youth Guidance for our sponsorships.  We donated to Victory Kids to help rebuild property lost in a fire and supported the Youth Guidance King of the Hill event. On May 7th<\/sup> our club sponsored two teams in the Sebastian River Area Chamber Annual Golf Tournament. Our men\u2019s \u201cA\u201d Team won 4th<\/sup> place in the 1st<\/sup> flight.  Our ladies team enjoyed a day of camaraderie and good will!  Diana Best, Eva Chapman and Michelle Morris worked a booth at the first tee promoting our club to community business members who attended.<\/p>\n

Blue Water Open<\/u><\/em><\/h3>\n

Eva Chapman reports that Michelle is heading up the Blue Water Open VIP Event, Kimball is coordinating the Cheer Cooler effort and Rachel selected the trip and had tickets printed.  Scott is heading up the raffle tickets sales for a four-night\/three-day trip to NAPA Valley \u2013 this year the winning ticket will be drawn on June 4th<\/sup> at 7:00 p.m.  Please contact him to get yours. So far we have collected over $5,000, so now all brought in is income.  Karen is handling raffle baskets.  Items are needed for the baskets (especially restaurant gift certificates) so please try to collect as you are out and about and bring to Karen.  Diana and Terry are heading up volunteers \u2013 there are still open positions that need to be filled.  Please let them know where you can assist and contact Diana to sign up.  Remember no alcohol while on duty!!<\/em><\/strong> <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Eva will be handling boat registration.  Sponsor Packets have been sent out to members to send to their sponsors.  Printed versions are also available at each meeting.  Each sponsor can also add 150 items to our Captains Buckets.  We also have posters to be distributed.  Performance Tee-shirts are available for $30 each.  Thank you, Kimball, for sending the Save-The-Date reminder out to all of our previous sponsors and fishermen.<\/em><\/strong> Kimball has created a cooler of cheer that needs to be filled!   <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year the club completed at least one event in each of the four pillars of Exchange (8 total) as well as earned the National Service Award.  In April the Child Prevention flag was displayed on campus.<\/p>\n

The May meeting will be a celebration of all the accomplishments for the year, and election of officers for the coming year.  Club Advisor Jaime Sturgeon is very supportive of our efforts and is enthusiastic about having members get underway next year with activities which support the ideals of Exchange.  Volunteers are needed to assist with these meetings!<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

    Fellsmere Club<\/u><\/em>:<\/u><\/em>  The 2021 Shrimpfest & Craft Brew Hullabaloo <\/em><\/strong>was held Friday, March 19th<\/sup> through Sunday March 21st<\/sup>, 2021. This was a joint effort with the Rotary Club of Sebastian and roughly $55,000 was raised support youth sports and organizations throughout north Indian River County.<\/p>\n
