Guest Speaker Series

Our guest speakers on May 18th were Joy Votrobek and Mark Renehan (aka Officer Frederick) of American History Live, a division of the American Security Council Foundation. American History Live is a cyber interactive Avatar in which presentations are made to schools across the United States. There are several of these programs which are Florida State standard approved.
The program discussed today was Assignment Blue designed to assist police officers gain the confidence of our youth. Assignment Blue uses a cartoon character named Officer Frederick to help young students understand safety concerns in their environment and law enforcements’ role in the community. Facilitators are A.L.I.C.E. certified, which means they have been through the Active Shooter Training and Preparedness Solutions class. Mark and Joy attended this certification class in order to be able to facilitate this program to the kids, faculty and staff of local schools. A.L.I.C.E. (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) teaches safety tactics. Various interactive exercises are available depending on the ages of the students. Mark and Joy hope to gain approval from the school districts to work with the assistance of school resource officers and make more presentations in our schools locally. Our club was a $1500 sponsor of their clay shooting tournament fundraising event to promote the Assignment Blue program. For more information visit the website at www.americanhistorylive.org.
